Q. If i just do 1 hour cardio will i loose weight? or should i do some weights too?
Asked by Malcolm M - Wed Mar 5 09:10:43 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Cardio is what you want to do for the majority of weight loss, and weight training is more for toning muscles and building muscles, both of which you won't really notice until you lose the weight covering the muscles. So keep going with the cardio, and do remember to keep yourself challenged so that you can keep pushing yourself slightly further than the last time, that way your body won't get used to the same stagnant routine.

What is the training that a professional hockey player goes through?
Q. I'm doing a school project on hockey players and I tried looking everywhere on their training methods. Try to answers these two questions: 1-What are the number of hours dedicated to off-season training, in season training and pre and post season training? 2-What is the proper weight training, nutrition, stretching agility training, cardio training and rest periods of a profession hockey player? Thanks so much.

A. Here is what I think. Contact a local high school or youth league coach or trainer. If there aren't any near you, e-mail the trainer for your favorite team. I have gotten several letters over the years from the Red Wings trainer(s) when I had questions. Also, ask any players you know. Off season training is more up to the individual I think. Some work harder than others. It's all about conditioning so I imagine most players try to stay in shape somehow.

What training is needed to become a bounty hunter?
Q. I was wondering what training is needed to become a bounty hunter? Do you need training in a law academy or is there any schooling/ training required?
Asked by just tryin to help - Sun Mar 23 20:33:13 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I don't believe there is any required training...however, if you're planning to go into the field, you're definitely going to want some different things. First, you'll need to be in pretty good shape. You have to remember, that many of these people are going to fight you, you need to be ready for that...which leads into #2...you'll definitely benefit from self-defense, martial arts training. Bounty hunters that carry guns, invite a whole extra can of trouble on themselves. Many people feel more powerful/more invincible with that gun. There's a reason many bounty hunters DON'T use guns. Take Dog Chapman...he and his crew use pepper/mace foam...as do many bounty hunters I know (though I don't know any of them all that well). Most… [cont.]

A. Matters what country you are in. Each country has different laws and rules. In North America you have to go to the local Fish & Game Department pass the regulations (have a clean record), find a falconer that's a General or Master to Sponsor you for the first two years of your falconry career, take a test and pass it, and get all utensils (such as a Mews, jesses, and a perch for the bird) and make sure they get inspected by the DNR (Department of Natural Resources). After you get all of that stuff and pass you'll have a falconry license as a apprentice falconer. When you become a apprentice falconer you only have the option of catching a Red-tailed Hawk or American Kestrel (you are allowed to trap a Red-shouldered Hawk if you live in… [cont.]

When do you start training when a new puppy comes into your home?
Q. There's lots of training questions on here, so I wonder when most people begin training a new puppy. I'm talking about more than house training her too. Does it start the day the puppy comes home? Do you wait a couple weeks, let things slide, because puppy needs to settles in to the new home? Do you wait until 6 months or older? Just curious when people think it's the right time to begin proper training.
Asked by Shadow's Melon - Sat Sep 8 18:51:03 2007 - - 22 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Training starts the first day you bring the puppy home. It takes a while, but you start immediately. NO... you NEVER wait till a pup is 6 mo old to start training him. You can find details on HOW to do it at the websites below.

A. The best recipe I have received is the cheerio one; put a handful of Cheerios in a container that has a tight lid. Throw in a few pieces of pepperoni and leave overnight in the fridge. Then use the Cheerios as the treats - they will smell of pepperoni. Also, a training treat should be no bigger than a raisin (not a thumb!)

What training should I start with for an 11 week old puppy?
Q. We just got an 11 week old german shepherd puppy. She is already house trained. I was going to start with some simple stuff like getting used to the car also get some recordings of thunder or loud bass to remove future fear of it. But as far as training (sit, stay and so on...) what should I start with and when?
Asked by John S - Wed Jul 30 20:39:11 2008 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Good start. If you dog is able to pay attention, you can work with 5 basic commands, sit, stay, down (lay down), heel and place. Give her the sit command, then help her to sit. Praise. Give her the heel command and start walking. Keep her right beside you and on the same side each time (your choice). Then stop with a sit command, and help her sit. Praise. Do this a few times. When she starts to get the hang of it, you can correct her. You can mix it with down command. To get her to go down, step on the leash and apply gentle pressure to start to get her down. Give her a hand command with that. Put the palm of your hand over her head (not on her head). The place command is helpful with visitors, or dealing with trouble, etc. … [cont.]

A. It's just me and my boyfriend living together and he works a lot and the dogs pretty much ignore him. They have all been trained by me for the past 10yrs when i got the first. I don't think it is bad just having one person training, as long as the dog knows it's place at the bottom i don't see a problem. Obviously everyone in the household will need to be consistent with the dog and correct any inappropriate behavior. I believe the main training can be done by one person and not affect the dog or family negatively as long as it is done properly.

How can I optimize my weight training workout?
Q. My goals are size and strength. I do both weight training and cardio - alternating 3 days weight training, 3 days cardio, and 1 day rest. My weight training workout alternates between 3 sets each of two muscle groups, and then doing the same again but through different exercises, for a total of 12 sets per day, not including abs which are included in every weight training session. For example, one day might be 3 groups of BENCH - (quick rest) - CURLS, followed by 3 groups of CHINUPS - (quick rest) - FLYS. Sets normally consist of about 12, 10, and 8 reps to fatigue. Also, is muscle soreness a good indicator of resting that group that day?

A. For Size and strenght I would recommend bumping up the weight and lowering the reps. Move to more days of lifting and shift your cardio to interval speed training. Also shift your routine every 4-6weeks or whe you plateau. My week currently consists of MON: Chest/Tri TUE: Lowerbody/Core WED: Back/shoulders THUR:Cardio/Core FRI:Chest/Bi SAT:Lowerbody/Core SUN:OFF Do 3-4 exercises for each muscle group, 5-10 reps per. your last rep (especially your last 2 sets) should be to the point of muscle failure. I like to pyramid the large muscles ie chest, quads, hams going form higher reps to lower and increasing wieght, somehting like a 8-5-5-3 with the last set at 90% of your 1RM. You will want to take a longer break in between sets to let… [cont.]

At what age should I start training my puppy?
Q. What age would be too young for house training, crate training, etc etc..? I wouldn't want to train my puppy too young but I want to train him at an age which is not too late.
Asked by Miley H - Sun Oct 5 04:21:29 2008 - - 15 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can start training as soon as you get the puppy home (which should be 6 weeks or after). I began crate training immediately, especially since this takes time. Additionally you should start saying your dogs name often as soon as it gets home. Once you "get to know" your dog and it's personality, you can start with teaching him/her other skills. I started with sit at about 10 weeks. I did lay down and shake next. "Stay" takes a little more time, but you can also teach "come" at the same time. I didn't teach "speak" until about a year later. Eventually I decided to teach "high five." She just learned that one a few months ago and she's 3 years old. There's no age that is too late to teach a dog a new trick, contrary to the old… [cont.]

How can I train my puppy to poop indoors on the training pad?
Q. We just got a 2.5 month old beagle for Christmas. Luckily we taught him how to pee on the training pad but he doesnt learn how to poop on them. Any suggestions/advice?

A. Put the training pads down in the places where he regularly poops and eventually he will learn. Or you could try training him to go outside straight away so that you don't need to bother with the pads. Everytime he looks like he is going to do something put him outside then he will learn that he needs to be let out before pooping (my dog learnt straight away, but my sisters took longer to be house-trained) hope that helps

Has Army basic training and overall quality gotten weak over the years?
Q. If seems they let just about anyone in these days with a more laxed basic training and government promises (money just for signing up, clearing student debts, etc). An old Army vet once told me that there was a time when Army training was as rigorous as Marines. Nowadays drills instructors aren't allowed to be too mean anymore, wow, really? What's going on here? Is it just this latest generation of young people who have more or less have had everything handed to them their whole lives? Will it get tough again?

A. I think you have it backwards. When I was in the army ( during the last draft ) they took any loser they could get. I had to go Airborne just to make sure that I would be with the best and wasn't stuck in combat with those Sad Sacks. I guess, if I wanted to I could tell you lots of lies about how hard it was back in the "bad old days". I made it through the Airborne Course ( jump school ) while smoking two packs of cigarettes a day. Damn near killed me, but I did it. But by the time I got there, I was in condition. Judging from what I have heard and what my son has told me about his basic training, I don't think I could have gotten through the modern BCT. How long is training to be a Japanese linguist in the air force?
Q. Basic training is 8 weeks and then how long would the additional training to be a Japanese linguist be if there is such a thing? I plan to join the USAF reserves. My mom is Japanese so I am already fairly good at speaking and understanding the language.
Asked by scott - Mon Jul 6 05:32:12 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There are no Japanese linguists in the air force...at least not formally. Although there is a Japanese language class at DLI, it is for advanced studies and not basic Japanese. Therefore, if you are planning on being a Japanese linguist, forget it. The language you get is based on two factors: 1.) If you are already fluent in a language based on your score on the DLPT and the air force needs it. 2.) Based on your DLAB score and what you qualify to learn. Then again, the needs of the air force. Most Category 4 languages are at least a year at DLI in Monterey, CA or DLI East in Washington DC.

How long is training after marine boot camp and how much freedom is there?
Q. My boyfriend is at boot camp right now and I was just wondering how long he's going to be in training for after boot camp. He is in the infantry i think and i know he's going to la jeune and then to missouri. A. Well if he's coming here to Missouri I'm guessing he's either MP, Motor T, or CBRN, right? My husband went to MCT at Pendleton, so his liberty was a bit different than what they have over at Le Jeune, but in talking to other East Coast Marines, they got time on the weekends to use phones and computers, go around base, etc, and then the weekend before graduation I believe they got a few hours of off-base liberty (my husband got almost a full 2 days, but I heard they got less than that at Le Jeune, so I'm guessing here). When he gets to Missouri, it really depends entirely on his MOS and his superiors. My husband was given on-base liberty this weekend, with his battle buddy, and since I live in St. Robert I drove onto base and we hung out… [cont.]
