It encompasses a range of health care practices evolved to maintain and restore health by the prevention and treatment of illness. Before scientific medicine, healing arts were practised in accordance with alchemical treatments and ritual practices that developed out of religious and cultural traditions. The term "Western medicine" was until recently used to refer to scientific and science-based practices to distinguish it from "Eastern medicine" — which are typically based in traditional, anecdotal, or otherwise non-scientific practices. Contemporary medicine applies health science, biomedical research, and medical technology to diagnose and treat injury and disease, typically through medication, surgery, or some other form of therapy. The word medicine is derived from the Latin ars medicina, meaning the art of healing. Though medical technology and clinical expertise are pivotal to contemporary medicine, successful face-to-face relief of actual suffering continues to require the application of ordinary human feeling and compassion, known in English as bedside manner. GNU Free Documentation License What medical career requires the least amount of college years? Q. So I've been thinking about studying for a medical career, and I was wondering - what career requires the least amount of school? I know some medical careers require like- seven years of school, is there a career that can require four or less than four years of college? Asked by Question - Tue Nov 24 07:44:27 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Hello, Your question is a bit general and there are lots of potential choices, I'm not sure what interests you. There are many 2 year programs available possibly EMT training, Respiratory technician or X-ray/sonogram technician. The best bang for your buck in the long-term would be to shoot for a BSN (4 year nursing degree). There are always well-paying nursing jobs available regardless of where you live. Good luck! Answered by cardo1111 - Tue Nov 24 08:19:11 2009 Careers in the medical field specifically involving bloodwork? Q. I've been searching and wondering, what type of careers in the medical field besides phlebotomy can you go to school for to work specifically with the blood, such as evaluation, identifying, specific diseases which involve the blod, etc etc?? I live in arizona and to become a phlebotomist (minus the prerequisites) the actual course is only 9 months. I would like to work in this field but would not like to spend more then 2-3 years in college to advance into this type of medical field. Any information is helpful!!! A 4-year program to a job working with blood and body fluids to diagnose diseases etc. would be a medical technology or clinical laboratory science. There is also a 2-year program that is somewhat similar to this but with less responsibilities and less pay, which would be clinical laboratory technician I believe. The general category of what you are interested is clinical laboratory science, and you will find the kind of program that you are looking for at an allied health school. I think what it's called is Clinical Laboratory Technician. I've seen it abbreviated CLT/MT also. has a search feature to look for schools that offer the program that you want. Also you can try google, they could be missing some. Answered by Shannon XoXo - Wed May 14 00:58:10 2008 What are some medical fields that do not involve seeing too much blood?
